The art of the rave sales pitch

As i write to you now, I am sitting with my colleague, Danyl Goodall, in our suite at the grange hotel, tower bridge, sipping on a nice refreshing drink after a long but fun-filled night out.

However, our night was not just a regular 18-25 club night, no no, we made it become a spectacle of sales pitches to graduates, city dwellers and the likes.

In our drunken endeavours we ended up in Shoreditch, a place renowned for its club scene, walking the streets as we attempt to find this so called eden for the younger generation. Plastic People. In this cesspit of sweaty bodies, deep german techno/house music and alcohol fuelled tom-foolishery, we staged a plan. To attempt to create as many leads as possible. (We weren't there for the scantily clad women or alcohol or overly loud music in a dark/pitch-black room, promise).

Danyl in his wisdom, set about the act of "conversating" (the art of making conversation) with every single person in the venue. Which to his credit, he did succeed at. Partially because of how cheesy it was, but mainly because he's a really nice and approachable guy. I however took a different approach. Dancing by myself in the darken abyss that was the room of Plastic People, avoiding any contact with anyone to any length possible.

This then led to Danyl being thrust into conversation with an early 30s Lady, whilst i was getting us some drunks, he then however fled to the bathroom, leaving me armed with only my mighty sales pitch and an archers and lemonade to if you'll pardon the pun, stir up a conversation.

After getting into initial conversation with her, determining her accent as italian. I asked where she was from and she said Italy, then a beautiful flowing conversation formulated around my experiences in Italy (a story for another day) and hers in the UK. She saw my tattoos and was astounded by the art work on them (thank you Lee from Ink Asylum, if you ever need a tattoo artist go to him, Italian girls love his work), we then got into the reason behind her working and living in London. Her job. My colleague noticed her eye makeup was staggering. And made comment, to which she replied with gratitude and informed us of her employers. Yves Saint Laurent. Working as a make up artist. She then turned round to what brought us down to London, and when i informed her of mine and dans job roles she was astonished, and ask for our contact details to arrange to have coffee and meet-up some time, with a light towards business. Great success.

Now as the night developed, we found the event to become more and more lets say fundamentally flawed, quite like my blog, however, it didn't fail to offer another opportunity or two. I, as some of you reading may be aware, am quite an athletic guy, whom when going out tends to not wear the largest amount of clothing, so as you can assume in this sweaty ball-pit i was drenched and removed the SikSilk vest that i was wearing, wrapping it around my waist. Where what i assume to be a gentlemans girlfriend starts pointing at me, called me over and said "your muscles are incredible", to which i was flattered, and her male-friend proceeded to question me about fitness and then got onto asking why i was in London. So taking the same stance as before, I informed Teddy,(like Sherringham, because i kept calling him freddy so he put it in football terms for me to understand), of what we were doing in London. Of our business and how we're regularly in town, but had never been out before. He then said "this must be a chance meeting, as i am in the marketing team of accenture, and i'd love to speak to you regarding business sometime", at this point my jaw hit the floor, he then took my card, which i was impressed to still have on me at this point and parted ways.

We then left the venue, pretty satisfied with ourselves and our night, got a cab back to the grange, (picking up a business card from the taxi company), where we proceeded to have a nightcap and to write this blog before bed whilst fresh on our minds.

We hope you all had as enjoyable a valentines day as we had, and wish you all many happy returns.

Peace.
